American Idol Has Lost Its Touch
I can recall when I made it my business to get home on American Idol days just so that I can see who would be winning for the evening, and who would be going home . I even watched the night that Simon Cowell had some not so nice things to say to now, Academy Award winner, Jennifer Hudson. I remember many of the seasons as if it were yesterday, but this season, I do not know any of the contestants names, I do not know the name of the newest judge added to the roster, and while I have been seeing hoopla on the Internet surrounding the final episodes, I just cannot bring myself to turn to American Idol this year.
Maybe I have lost faith in the set up of its system, maybe I do not believe that once a person has won, they will go on to do anything greater than most of the other contestants – with the exception of Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken, and the ‘non-winner,’ but truest winner of them all, Jennifer Hudson, who does not need an EPK to let the world know who she is – with an Academy-Award under her belt, as she was not fed the pipe dream story of going on to this glamorous record deal upon winning. I really cannot put my fingers on when and where the Idol mechanics changed for me, but all that I know is, is that they changed.
If I had to speculate why I am harboring such pessimistic feelings about A.I., I would have to say that it is not fair how a person can become an American Idol statistic, after being praised and glorified so heavily on the show, then after their win, a few months later, you never hear about them at all. So, you mean to tell me that I spent a whole few months rushing home to see who is going to win week after week, until we get to the finale, then a winner is chosen, and that’s that? Somehow, I feel cheated, I feel as if I could have spent my time doing something other than watching for a winner that will not be heavily promoted once their stint on A.I. is up. I guess I really stopped seeing the logic in it.
Well, no matter who wins this season, it is a dreamland for a publicist, and the publicity of being on the show is still great, and I hope that all of those that vied for the coveted winner’s spot, realize that their dreams do not end there, and that they should persevere on to other things…their lives do not begin and end with American Idol, and apparently, neither does mine.

In 1993, my chance came to meet Shakur while I was at a convention in Atlanta, Georgia, and anyone that knows me, knows that I am just not one that easily excites, but when the opportunity presented itself to meet him, I froze up, and complimented him on his teeth (which, by the way, was something that my friend never let me live down). After that, I vowed to never have a star struck moment again, and went back to realizing that though Shakur was a ‘celebrity,’ he still was no different than I was – it was an embarrassing moment to say the least.
I know that I have said a lot in the paragraph above, but I have examples to back up why you should not get so excited about the live of a ‘celebrity, because we all remember how they used to get a lot of publicity . You were excited over MC Hammer or over Vanilla Ice, it just seemed as if their reigns would never end, but then, all of a sudden, they somehow faded into the sunset, and became irrelevant, something that you could not have fathomed would ever occur for such ‘celebrities’ that were on top of their game within the music genre. Now they can use a press kit or EPK to help their public careers get back on track, as they need to now start their PR all over again. The point is that we sometimes get so inundated in the success of these people that we really forget to think about the fact that they are really no better than we are. Why do we care that Madonna is going to adopt another child – as there are many people that adopt children everyday? Why would someone pay a million dollars of a picture of some celebrity’s baby? We are in a recession, so spending that type of money on a picture seems idiotic to the laymen, but the reality is that, we as people live for the sensationalism of it all.
Are we trying to live through them because we are bored with our lives, or is it because we look at their success as a blueprint for us? What is the real reason that we are so fascinated with celebrities, because what is so important and intricate to remember is that they are only famous because of us –the supporters, the consumers, the fans. You are the reason that they have been labeled a ‘celebrity,’ so, in essence, you are famous, too.

I’ve just finished watching HBO’s How To Make it in America get-go season the new series taking up in New York, from the makers of Entourage.I heard somewhere one the reviews where it’s like the Entourage before they made it.The series is about two New Yorkers Ben Epstein and Cameron ‘Cam’ Calderonin living in Manhattan one jewish and one spanish friends that trying to find their way around the city.
One will believe that because of the lack of college grooming they have (they are both college drop out) they will be working in New York Towing
or provide NYC roadside assistance
, but they want to be entrepreneurs and make their own fashion Brand.the second story line is focusing on Cameron ‘Cam’ Calderonin cousin named Rene Calderon played by Luis Guzmán.Rene Calderon is just got out of prison house and hitting back the streets trying to make money.Rene Charter payed by Luis Guzmán is one of the series greatest characters he hold his meetings in a New York Auto body Repair Shop
and try to get a new energy drink to the streets called Rasta Monsta.He is starting modest and by the end of the season plunderer ALERT: he owns the rights for the energy drink in New York.
Meanwhile Ben and Cam know they want to be in the fashion business and after a few funny and bad tries they do header to get some success.
Another story line (the third) is focusing on Ben Ex girlfriend Rachel Chapman played by Lake Bell.To my opinion this story line is not that interesting and it’s something like a unobjectionable modern sex and the city story…
From the rootage song this series screams New York all of the season was cinematography in New York and most of it in Manhattan and they really managed to catch the city atmosphere.Most of the review liked this new HBO original series.I must agree, though the season was extra short, only vii episodes i designate that Mark Wahlberg nailed it again, apparently he is a go bad manufacturing business than a raper or an doer.
I think that this show as a potential to be as good as Entourage and become an HBO classic (a standard that right nows owns by The Larry Sandars Show (1992) and Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000))
The get of the series is just great at a lot of fun to watch.The only problem i am finding with this series is that they first season has only seven episodes and the next season will be up only in summer 2011, more than a year from now…
I can’t understand HBO in this case but we will have to just wait and see where Ben Epstein, Cameron ‘Cam’ Calderonin and Rene Calderon will take us next season.
My bet is on a big success in Japan.

WWE NXT Reality Show
After all the speculation about what WWE’s new NXT show would be like, we finally have some new concrete information – it’s got nothing to do with science fiction or conspiracies.
Entertainment industry publication Variety reveals that WWE NXT will be a reality-based show, similar to Tough Enough and UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter,” that will feature eight rookie wrestlers from WWE’s developmental system (Florida Championship Wrestling) as they work their way towards a spot on the main WWE roster. Each rookie will be paired up with a veteran WWE superstar as their mentor, “with egos often getting in the way, as they learn the ropes of competing in the ring in front of live audiences, creating characters and speaking on camera.”
WWE is teasing the series as a window into how the company truly operates.
“These kids crash and burn a lot,” said Vince McMahon. “By putting them into this environment we’ll find out if they can make it. There’s no better way to develop skills than being in front of an audience. And that makes for good television. ”
McMahon added, “ECW’ feels old, it feels tired. Sometimes our brands need freshening up. You have to continue to reinvent yourself.”
The weekly show will be broken into seasons, with two or three seasons airing per year. It will feature a totally new “look and feel” for WWE programming.
“Syfy is excited to continue our partnership with WWE, Vince and his team with this innovative live event-reality show,” said Syfy president Dave Howe. “The ‘NXT’ rookies take the challenge of our new tagline ‘Imagine Greater’ to heart as they embark on their ultimate dream quest to be the next generation of revered heroes and champions in the fantastic arena of the WWE.”

Season Seven Auditions Continue Wednesday, March 10
Hosted by Cat Deeley, the hit dance competition series will inspire and amaze viewers as dancers skilled in styles ranging from hip-hop to ballroom compete to be named America’s Favorite Dancer. Last season’s winner, Russell Ferguson, danced off with a $250,000 cash prize, the title of America’s Favorite Dancer and a cover feature in the March issue of Dance Spirit Magazine.

Dancers must be either a U.S. citizen, legal permanent resident of the U.S., or possess a current legal Employment Authorization Card enabling him/her to seek employment freely in the U.S. (i.e., without restrictions as to employer) by the date specified in the eligibility rules. Dancers must be no younger than 18 or older than 30 years of age on the first day they register for auditions. The network’s reality-show-come-social-experiment The Colony is searching for resourceful yet TV-suited personalities to participate in the second season, and they’re looking in Houston. The show isolates cast members outside Los Angeles in an urban environment designed to simulate post-apocalyptic America. That means no running water, no power, and no modern communication.
Casting directors say they’re looking for ingenuity and resourcefulness; the application asks for name, age, occupation and “specific skills that can contribute to rebuilding a society.” (No bigs).
With our excess of medical professionals, engineers and cowboy types, we imagine Houston could offer some pretty competitive colonists.

Food Network open casting call
Food Network and the producers of “The Next Food Network Star” are looking for two-person teams for a new competition series. The show is looking for those who dream of running their own restaurant, and a wife, husband, brother, sister, mother, partner or friend who shares that dream.
Two-person teams with pre-existing relationships such as husband and wife, ex-husband and wife, father and daughter, mother and son, newlyweds, brothers, sisters, twins, cousins, best friends, etc., should apply.
Applicants may have no restaurant experience, a ton of experience or some combination of the two. One member of the team will be the chef and run the kitchen, and the other will run the “front of the house,” so what Food Network asks is that those auditioning have the skills, as a team, to actually run a restaurant. They are also looking for lots of energy and charm. Those who already own their own restaurant or have previously owned a restaurant should not apply.
